The Gospel according to...you (?)

For my Old Testament study, I am currently in the Book of Leviticus. For me, it is a difficult book to read, understand and apply to my own life. That's when you need a good study guide! Thankfully, one was recommended to me last year by a friend (thanks V!) and it has been such a gift - allowing me to understand God's Word in a deeper, clearer way.

So Saturday, after reading in Leviticus, I turned to Dr. J. Vernon McGee's Thru the Bible to see what he had to say...and incorporated in his outline, I found this:

The Gospel is written a chapter a day
By the deeds that you do and the words that you say.
Men read what you say whether faithless or true.
Say, what is the Gospel according to you?

I backed up and read it again. And again. It struck me as quite a profound little poem.

If I am Christ's Ambassador here on earth, then everything I do and everything I say can impact a lost brother or sister. Am I the best representative of the Gospel that I can be? Those who do not know the Lord are more than likely NOT reading His Word. So it's up to me as a believer to live His Word so that it's evident in my words and deeds.

What a responsibility...and you know I was convicted. A million thoughts ran through my head. Oh so many ways I can do better! I prayed that the Holy Spirit guide me and make me more conscious of my behavior.

So tell me...what is the Gospel...according to YOU?

Yesterday was "Friend's Day" at church. My girlfriend, Kimberly, attended church and Sunday School with me. Please keep her in your prayers. When I thanked her for going, she said, "I did it for you." It is my prayer that one day (soon, please Lord) she will realize it was the best thing she ever did...for herself.

Because if there's one thing I know for sure, it's that we ALL need a Savior.

Which leads me to my song choice for Music Monday. I hope you enjoy it! **Remember to scroll down and pause my player before clicking the link.**

What a great little poem and great post. A year ago I quit working at a bakery because of my dad's death. I knew I would be making several trips from the east to the midwest, so I didn't go back to work. But I miss that place to this day. It was such a dark place spiritually, but I was priveleged to be a light. Not so much by what I said, but by how I treated my co-workers and working to the glory of God. I was told by a co-worker that I was the only one our manager didn't talk about behind my back. I was thrilled to be Christ's ambassador. Think of you often Gigi and praying for you today.

I just read a blog on hypocrisy. And, now your blog telling me that I have 'responsibility'.

The Gospel to me is to have love for others and try and be selfless as I attempt to find a way to tell others what the meaning of life is.

I know that last line may have sounded sarchastic. But, I feel strongly that I know the answer.

If phrased another way, "why were we created?". Then a Christian should be able to say they know the answer.

Exactly Jody! Remember the quote attributed to St. Francis (although I don't believe there's evidence that he actually said it) that says something like, "Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words when necessary." I think we made a bolder statement for the Kingdom of God with our actions, versus our words...

Hi Gigi,
I was honored to teach Sunday School for many years. In there somewhere I had to teach Leviticus and Numbers, 2 seemingly boring books. I studied and was blessed so profoundly that I still consider them favorites.
Prayers for your friend,
Vicki

Thanks for the encouragement Vicki! I find it very hard to concentrate these days - hard to stay focused. I'm told it's part of the grieving process...I'm so thankful for good study guides!!

Hi Gigi,
The article I read before yours was about hypocrisy. Yours is about how we deliver the Gospel. Your blog and the blog about hypocrisy impacted me because they both say we have a responsibility to correctly handle the word of truth.

You ask,

So tell me...what is the Gospel...according to YOU?

My answer was,

"The Gospel to me is to have love for others and try and be selfless as I attempt to find a way to tell others what the meaning of life is".

What I mean by that, Gigi, is to answer to why are we created.

Hello gigi,

What is the Gospel according to me? I try to be a beacon of JOY so that when i offer a smile or a prayer or a word of encouragement it will be the Lord flowing out of me to others. In so doing people will ask, where do you get your joy.... Door has swung wide open at this point and now i am going to walk through it.

His Joy will always be my strength. I have got a lot to look forward too when i keep my heart fixed on him. No eye has seen no ear has heard neither has it entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for them who love Him! Looking forward to that day keeps my joy in Him alive!

His Joy is my message :)
